Pavements with recycled plastics

Hi folks! I hope you are all enjoying the start of the fall season.

If you are interested in the use of recycled materials in construction products, you may find this article interesting and useful. It is about the use of recycled plastics in asphalt pavements as there is currently a big industry push to find new venues to reuse recycled plastics.

While PET plastic bottles are routinely recycled, the same cannot be said for other types of plastics, such as polyethylene (PE)- that would be milk jugs (high density) and plastic bags (low density). In this study we are looking into one feasible way to give recycled PE a new life- in roads.

We did an LCA on asphalt pavements with recycled polyethylene. We assessed 5 environmental impact categories (GWP included) + the potential waste plastics amounts that can be diverted from the landfills. We used 100% public background data and industry standards to conduct our LCA for the highest transparency and credibility.

Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions.
