Mass Timber & Embodied Carbon - Webinar (ECN Vancouver)

ECN Vancouver will be hosting a free online webinar focused on Mass Timber and Embodied Carbon on Monday, March 16th from 6-8pm PST ! This event, originally planned as an in-person event in Vancouver, has been converted to an entirely online experience in light of concerns over the growing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Due to this shift, we can now invite a much larger audience outside of Vancouver to join in this important conversation around Mass Timber and Embodied Carbon!

About the Webinar:
We have a great lineup of industry experts that will present on biogenic carbon, forestry certifications, CLT fabrication, & LCA modelling of mass timber buildings. There will be time for Q&A after each presentation.

  • Geoffrey Guest from the National Research Council Canada will present on “The Climate Conundrums of Biogenic Carbon emissions”. Geoff is a Research Officer at NRC and is the founder and technical lead for NRC’s Low-Carbon Assets through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA^2) Initiative, which is a major national initiative that will establish a centralized Canadian Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) database and support the development of guidelines, benchmarks, and enhanced tools.
  • Eric Wood is a Facade Specialist and Mass Timber Practice Lead at Morrison Hershfield. He will speak about different Forestry Certification systems and how they compare.
  • Lindsay Rasmussen is a Program Manager with Architecture 2030 and will speak about a research project she advised by the University of Oregon and Tallwood Design Institute, which focused on Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and its availability, benefits and barriers, applications, and embodied carbon impacts.
  • Ken Laven from Kalesnikoff will share about their new advanced fully integrated mass timber production facility opening soon in BC.

We are very grateful to Canadian Wood Councillor / Wood WORKS! for sponsoring this free event.

Excited for this webinar, but may have to miss due to kids and external factors - will it be recorded and can we get a link?

Hi Chris, sorry for the slow reply. We have recorded it and 3 of the 4 presenters agreed to having it uploaded. I’ll email all of the registered attendees the link once it’s uploaded and will also post the link here.

Hi Anthony, can you please send me the recording as well? I will message you my details. Thanks.

Hi everyone, we’ve just posted recordings of the presentations where we have permission to do so on our new ECN Vancouver YouTube channel. Enjoy!
