Just announced! ARPA-E opportunity for buildings as carbon sinks

[ARPA-E has announced the launch of the HESTIA (Harnessing Emissions into Structures Taking Inputs from the Atmosphere) Program! Let’s change what’s possible and turn our buildings into carbon sinks! Concept papers for the HESTIA FOA due Dec. 20 and full applications for the complementary Life Cycle Analysis Exploratory Topic due Jan. 10.

I just had the opportunity to look into this and some exciting points. This funding is open to individuals, companies as well as NGOs/academics/federal agencies. Of particular note to the Architects, Engineers and Builders here, note that there is funding for BUILDING DESIGN and extra funding for small businesses. This might be a great way to get funded to do the development work to demonstrate how to integrate novel carbon storing materials into buildings! The concept paper due Dec 20th is a relatively low bar to see if your ideas are worth developing into a longer proposal.

It can be difficult to navigate the site. Go here for the general information: https://arpa-e-foa.energy.gov/Default.aspx#FoaId2eb35c87-8596-4c1d-950b-6010ae6f38ce
